Could this law come to NJ soon? A new law in TN allows prosecutors to charge new moms with assault and face potential jail if their baby is born addicted or suffer other injuries because of mom's drug use while pregnant. This has always been a serious issue for many people since innocent babies are born into this world with a host of problems and their own withdrawal and addiction due to the mom's choices. The law was not created with the intent on taking babies away from new moms and sending them to jail. Instead, the law was enacted with the hope that pregnant women with a substance abuse problem will find treatment and not use while they are pregnant.
30 years ago, a charm bracelet was stolen. In February of this year, a CA police officer discovered bags of stolen jewelry in the trunk of a car during a traffic stop. In hopes of tracking down the owner, the detective posted the charm bracelet that was stamped with names and dates on the police department's Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest accounts. Eight hours later, the detective received information from 3 people who helped him identify the rightful owner.
What a great use for social media. In 1999, Cornealious Anderson helped rob a Burger King in Missouri. In 2000, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. However, he was never notified to report to jail. He waited for a while and when it never came he stared his own construction business, got married and had kids. He also started coaching his kids sports team and volunteered at his church. Last July, when the 13 year term was to end, someone at the Dept. of Corrections realized the error and that Anderson was never actually in jail. Marshals came to pick him up 14 years later! A judge reviewed the matter and determined that Anderson was due credit for the 4,794 days between when he was convicted and when he was arrested in 2013, which allowed him to walk out of the courtroom a free man now and go back to his life.
